Artist's House - Outdoor Spatial Design

Project type

Residential - External

Location

Alampra, Cyprus

This project explores the transformation of the external spaces surrounding a private artist’s residence into a cohesive architectural environment that extends the language of the home into its landscape. The client, an artist seeking a tranquil yet inspiring setting, envisioned a series of outdoor areas that could support relaxation, reflection, and creative thought. The design responds by framing the site not simply as a garden, but as an architectural extension of the house a sequence of defined spaces that mediate between built form and nature.

The composition of the exterior is guided by the same principles that inform the architecture of the home: proportion, rhythm, materiality, and light. Rather than treating the outdoors as a decorative setting, the design establishes clear spatial hierarchies pathways that guide movement, platforms for lounging and conversation, and moments of openness balanced by enclosure. Each area is shaped through subtle shifts in level, texture, and geometry, creating a sense of continuity with the interior spaces while maintaining its own distinct atmosphere.

Lush greenery is used not as a dominant visual element but as a spatial boundary softening edges, filtering light, and providing layers of privacy. The architectural surfaces and landscape elements engage in dialogue, allowing the built and natural components to coexist in balance. The result is an exterior environment that feels composed and intentional, offering a variety of sensory experiences while preserving a strong architectural identity.

Ultimately, the project celebrates the act of inhabiting space moving, resting, and observing within a framework that feels calm, cohesive, and deeply personal. It transforms the simple idea of “outdoor space” into an architectural narrative that mirrors the creative spirit of its inhabitant.
